The Hang of It by J.D.Salinger — Review

The Hang of It by J.D.Salinger is a short story about army everyday life.

The story is about a soldier who, despite his incredible clumsiness, continued to try and did not back down from his goals. Salinger writes very sincerely and somehow in a worldly way.

The Tuppenny Millionaire by P. G. Wodehouse — Review

The beginning of the story “The Tuppenny Millionaire” by P. G. Wodehouse gives us the feeling that we understood the character of the hero - this is a boring, "mechanical" clerk, incapable of recklessness.

Nevertheless, the clerk leaves his desk and goes to rest in a place near Monte Carlo. He meets a beautiful lady. The clerk has a chance to earn the favor of a charming lady, but he makes a mistake.

And instead of reconciling with defeat, as logic requires, he bravely rushes against fate.

The Picture by Alexander Kuprin —- Review

Thanks to the colorful speech of the narrator, readers of the story “The Picture '' by Alexander Kuprin can vividly imagine the people of the 19th century.

The conclusion of the narration is that there is no such strong friendship that cannot be destroyed. Most often the peace of mind can be ruined by lovely creatures - women.

The I.O.U. by Scott Fitzgerald — Review

The story “The I.O.U.” by Scott Fitzgerald is a kind of parody of cowards in the publishing industry. Maybe Fitzgerald described his personal experience. He had 122 rejection notices for his first works!

There's a lot of humor in the story - including light-hearten quips at publishers, spiritualists and newspaper reporters. There's also more serious ideas: what it would be like if somebody was declared as dead in World War I and then it was found out that his relative gained money on his (fictitious) death.

Fitzgerald took the plot about a young man crippled by war. This line was developed by the author in his most famous novel “The Great Gatsby”.
