“The Social Sense” by William Somerset Maugham — Review

The most well-mannered people have a so-called “The Social Sense” - when you have to behave not as you want, but as is expected in a cultural society.

There is no way to do this without lying. It is how Maugham’s story begins. The narrator is invited to visit and he is forced to go because of a sense of decency.

This phenomenon is represented in the plot of the story.
